For affiliates

Affiliate Terms

Everything you need to know about earning with AwaOwn, your rights, how commissions work, and what's not allowed.

Effective date: June 4, 2026. By registering as an AwaOwn affiliate or generating your first referral link, you agree to be bound by these Affiliate Terms.

1. Programme overview

The AwaOwn Affiliate Programme allows approved participants ("Affiliates") to earn commission by promoting products sold on the AwaOwn marketplace. When a buyer clicks your unique referral link and completes a qualifying purchase, you earn a percentage of that sale's value, with no inventory, shipping, or customer service required on your part.

These Affiliate Terms govern your participation in the programme. They supplement and should be read alongside the general Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

2. Eligibility

To become an AwaOwn Affiliate, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Hold a valid Nigerian bank account in your own name for receiving payouts.
  • Submit a valid government-issued photo ID for identity verification.
  • Provide a working email address and phone number.
  • Not be an active merchant on AwaOwn earning on your own store's products (merchants may not earn affiliate commissions on purchases from their own store).

Applications are reviewed within 24–48 hours. AwaOwn reserves the right to decline any application without providing reasons.

3. Your affiliate account

  • Each person may hold only one affiliate account. Operating multiple accounts to increase earnings artificially will result in permanent suspension and forfeiture of all pending commissions.
  • Your login credentials are personal to you. You are responsible for all activity under your account, whether or not you authorised it. Report suspected unauthorised access immediately to support@awaown.com.
  • Affiliates must keep their contact details, bank account information, and ID documents current. Outdated payout details that result in failed transfers are the Affiliate's responsibility.
  • Every AwaOwn Affiliate is assigned a unique referral ID embedded in their links. This ID is how we attribute sales to your account.
  • The tracking cookie window is 30 days. If a buyer clicks your link and purchases within 30 days, even if they did not purchase immediately, you earn the commission, provided no other affiliate's link was clicked after yours (last-click attribution).
  • AwaOwn uses a last-click model: if a buyer clicks multiple affiliates' links, the affiliate whose link was clicked most recently before the purchase receives the commission.
  • Commission is tracked against the order value, not the click. Cookie blockers, privacy browsers, or incognito mode may prevent attribution, this is outside AwaOwn's control and does not obligate AwaOwn to manually credit commissions.
  • You may generate a referral link for any product currently listed on AwaOwn. Referral links for removed or suspended products will not generate commissions.

5. Commission structure & rates

Affiliate commission is a percentage of the item subtotal (excluding delivery charges and taxes) of each qualifying order. Rates vary by product category and mirror the merchant commission table published on the Commission Structure page.

The commission paid to an affiliate comes from AwaOwn's share of the marketplace commission, merchants do not pay more because a buyer used an affiliate link. This means there is no conflict between affiliate promotion and merchant payouts.

AwaOwn may run promotional periods during which affiliate commission rates are temporarily increased for specific categories or campaigns. These promotions will be communicated via your affiliate dashboard and email. Promotional rates apply only to orders placed during the promotion window.

6. Commission confirmation & voidance

How commissions are earned:

  1. A buyer clicks your referral link and places an order, the commission is recorded as pending in your dashboard.
  2. The order is delivered and the 7-day return window passes without a return request, the commission moves to confirmed status.
  3. Confirmed commissions are included in the next weekly payout cycle.

Commissions are voided (not paid) in the following situations:

  • The order is cancelled before fulfilment, returned, or refunded for any reason.
  • The buyer used a valid coupon code that reduced the order to ₦0.
  • The sale was driven by self-referral (you purchased through your own link).
  • The commission was generated through fraudulent means, bot traffic, or click manipulation.
  • The product is subsequently found to have been a prohibited or counterfeit listing removed by AwaOwn.

7. Payouts

  • Minimum balance: ₦10,000 confirmed in your affiliate wallet before a withdrawal can be requested.
  • How to withdraw: Log in to your affiliate dashboard, navigate to Earnings → Withdraw, and submit a payout request. You must confirm your bank details at the time of each request.
  • Processing time: Payout requests are processed within 2 business days. Funds typically reflect in your bank account within 1 additional business day depending on your bank.
  • Taxes: AwaOwn pays your commissions gross. You are responsible for declaring affiliate income and paying applicable tax under Nigerian law. AwaOwn is not responsible for any tax liability arising from your earnings.
  • Withheld payouts: If your account is under investigation for fraud or a policy violation, pending payouts may be withheld until the investigation concludes. Commissions associated with confirmed fraudulent activity are permanently forfeited.

8. Permitted promotion

You may promote AwaOwn and your referral links through channels you own or legitimately operate, including:

  • Your personal or business social media profiles (Instagram, TikTok, X, Facebook, YouTube, etc.).
  • WhatsApp groups or broadcast lists where all members have opted in to receive content from you.
  • Personal blogs, websites, or newsletters where subscribers have consented to marketing content.
  • In-person conversations and word of mouth.

Disclosure requirement: When promoting AwaOwn products in exchange for a commission, you must clearly disclose your affiliate relationship in any content where a reasonable person might not otherwise understand that you stand to earn from a sale. A simple statement such as "I earn a commission if you buy through this link" is sufficient. This is a legal requirement under the Nigerian Consumer Protection Framework and the standards of most social media platforms.

9. Prohibited conduct

The following actions will result in immediate suspension and forfeiture of all pending commissions:

  • Self-referrals: purchasing through your own affiliate link, whether directly or through a third party on your behalf.
  • Click fraud: using bots, automated scripts, click-exchange services, or any method to artificially inflate click or conversion counts.
  • Cookie stuffing: dropping affiliate cookies on users' devices without their knowledge or without a legitimate click.
  • Paid brand keyword ads: running paid search advertisements that bid on "AwaOwn", "awaown.com", or any variation of our brand name, without prior written consent.
  • Spam: sending unsolicited bulk messages (email, SMS, or messaging apps) to people who have not consented to receive them.
  • False claims: making misleading statements about AwaOwn's products, prices, terms, or quality in promotional content.
  • Multiple accounts: operating more than one affiliate account, whether in your own name or through another person.
  • Coupon misuse: creating, distributing, or promoting unauthorised discount codes not issued by AwaOwn.

10. Attribution & disputes

If you believe a qualifying sale was not correctly attributed to your account, you may open an attribution dispute from your affiliate dashboard within 30 days of the order date. When opening a dispute, include:

  • The order number or approximate order date.
  • The referral link or channel through which you promoted the product.
  • Any evidence you have (e.g. a screenshot of the click, a social post, a message history).

Our team will review the server-side tracking data and respond within 5 business days. AwaOwn's determination on attribution disputes is final. We are unable to credit commissions where tracking was genuinely blocked at the user's browser or device level.

11. Programme modifications

AwaOwn may modify any aspect of the Affiliate Programme, including commission rates, product eligibility, and payout thresholds, at any time. For material changes, we will provide at least 14 days' notice by email. Commission rates applicable to an order are those in effect at the time the order was placed; changes are never retroactive.

AwaOwn may pause or discontinue the affiliate programme at its discretion, provided that all confirmed earned commissions due at the time of discontinuation are paid out.

12. Term & termination

Your participation in the AwaOwn Affiliate Programme continues on a month-to-month basis until terminated by either party. You may close your affiliate account at any time by emailing support@awaown.com from your registered address; any confirmed earned commissions above the minimum withdrawal threshold will be paid out in the next cycle.

AwaOwn may suspend or terminate your account immediately and without notice if we determine you have engaged in fraud, material policy violations, or conduct that brings AwaOwn into disrepute. In such cases, pending commissions from the violating period are forfeited.

13. Governing law

These Affiliate Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Any disputes arising from participation in the AwaOwn Affiliate Programme shall be resolved first through good-faith negotiation, then mediation, and if unresolved, by courts of competent jurisdiction in Nigeria.
